First reunion of Dhaka University’s (DU) Arabic department Alumni Association (DUAAA) and annual general meeting was held on Saturday amid much enthusiasm and festivity.
DU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman formally inaugurated the day-long festival as chief guest at the auditorium of Teacher-Students Center (TSC) of Dhaka University (DU).
Professor Dr Muhammad Yousuf, chairperson of Arabic department also convener of DUAAA presided over the programme while supernumerary professor of the department Dr Md Abu Baker Siddique delivered the key-note speech as alumni speaker.
Speaking on the occasion, the DU VC thanked the authorities concerned for forming the alumni association. Terming Arabic dept as a traditional department, he said in Islam as well as Arabic language there is an appeal for generosity, humanity and non-communal values.
“These qualities exist among the department’s teachers and students and we need to nurture these qualities,” the VC added.
The VC urged the alumni members to provide financial support for conducting research and infrastructure development of the department. He also asked to offer scholarships for the students of the Arabic department.
Among others, Dr Abu Md Delwar Hossain, Dean of Arts Faculty and Dr A Kader Azad president of Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) also spoke on the occasion.
