DU AIS department celebrates golden jubilee

The 50th anniversary of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems (AIS) of Dhaka University and the 25th anniversary of the Accounting Alumni were held on Friday at the university central playground. DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurates the day-long programme by cake cutting.

Department Chairman Professor Riyazur Rahman presided over the programme where Planning Minister MA Mannan was present as the chief guest and Chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission Dr Kazi Shahidullah and DU Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Professor Shibli Rubaiyatul Islam were present as special guests. Also, among others, the department's former teacher Professor Shafiq Ahmed Siddique, Professor M Moinuddin Khan, President of Accounting Alumni Association Swadesh Ranjan Saha and General Secretary M Tofail Ahmed spoke at the event.

Planning Minister said that teachers, researchers and students of DU Department of Accounting and Information Systems are playing an important role in the socio-economic development of Bangladesh. On the golden jubilee of the department, he gave best wishes and congratulations to the teachers and students of the department.

VC Professor Akhtaruzzaman greeted and congratulated the teachers and students of the department. He said since inception, teachers and students of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems have been playing a leading role in improving the education and research of the University and modernizing the country's economic infrastructure. He said that the university authorities have taken a wide range of programmes marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the centenary anniversary of DU and the golden jubilee celebrations of Bangladesh’s independence and urged the university authority to actively participate in the successful implementation of these programmes.

A large number of former and current teachers, students and officers and staff of the department participated in the event.
