The Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said, People would cry if the occupied canal area is returned in accordance with the law.

During a discussion meeting on Wednesday afternoon about Safe City Day and the Best Urban Reporting Award 2024, he also highlighted the significance of addressing encroachments.

Mayor Taposh stressed the importance of combating corruption with determination and integrity.

He emphasised that simply punishing or monitoring individuals will not suffice to eradicate corruption.  He stressed that, without citizens' commitment to integrity, progress will remain elusive.

Addressing the issue of corruption within DSCC, the mayor declared zero tolerance for corruption, stressing the need to instill cultural and civic awareness to combat the menace effectively.

"We initiate tasks but struggle to complete them. Laws exist, but enforcement falters.  Legal proceedings drag on for years, depriving us of the benefits," Mayor Taposh remarked.

In reference to the recent raids on restaurants, Mayor Tapas bemoaned the difficulties he faced and the media's partiality towards the businesses.  He questioned the effectiveness of being lenient and argued that stringent measures should be implemented to guarantee compliance and improve city safety.
