The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has made history by ensuring good governance and earning the trust of Dhaka residents through the timely construction and handover of the Azimpur Adhunik Nagar Market, said DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
He said this during the grand opening ceremony and final allocation of shops at the Azimpur Adhunik Nagar Market on Tuesday. He said that the market, formerly known as Tula Market, was in a dilapidated state with only 15 shopkeepers struggling to operate.
“In November 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we laid the foundation stone for this market. There was skepticism due to the DSCC’s past record of leaving victims of demolition projects without completion for years. However, we promised timely completion and business resumption, which we have achieved. This aesthetically pleasing market now supports 117 livelihoods, fulfilling our promise and establishing a new precedent in governance and trust,” said Mayor Taposh.
Addressing the unauthorized road excavation by WASA, Mayor Taposh said, “Yesterday, we observed WASA illegally excavating roads in Ward 26 using forged documents with fake signatures of our executive engineer. Such actions disrupt coordination and are unacceptable.
Strict measures will be taken against such misconduct. WASA has already apologized for the unauthorized excavation in Jatrabari and assured action against the responsible individuals. We expect similar actions for the incident in Lalbagh, including blacklisting the involved contractor. We will also inform the Local Government Minister to ensure stringent measures.”
During the ceremony, allocation papers and keys were handed over to 15 affected shopkeepers and other recipients.
The event was presided over by Ward 26 Councilor Mohammad Hasibur Rahman Manik. Notable attendees included Dhaka-7 MP Mohammad Selim, DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Mizanur Rahman, and Reserved Seat Councilor Nilufar Rahman, among others.
