After Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared zero tolerance against drugs across the country, law enforcement agencies have continued their vigorous operation to nab drug traffickers across the country. Just as the police are acclaimed for arresting drug traffickers ranging from drug addicts, so are drug lords out of reach as of now.

In the last one year, in a special operation conducted by the police in two police stations of Mirsarai upazila (Mirsarai and Jorarganj) of Chattogram district, 230 drug traffickers were arrested. In many cases, due to the weakness of the law, drug traffickers get out of jail on bail and resume their business.

On May 25, drug traffickers attacked the RAB in the Bariarhat municipal area, calling them robbers. Three people, including two RAB members, were injured.

According to Mirsarai and Zorarganj police, between May 2021 and May 2022, in the last one year, police arrested 230 people in 167 cases involving various drugs including Yaba pills, Phensedyl, huskies, cannabis, distilled liquor and ice. Among them, 119 people have been arrested in 87 cases of Jorarganj police station and 111 people have been arrested in 80 cases in Mirsarai police station.Police seized 60,231 pieces of yaba, 326 bottles of Phensedyl, 54 bottles of Huski, 119 kg 800 gm of cannabis, 497 liters of distilled liquor and 95 gm of ice at Jorarganj police station. On the other hand, 60,814 pieces of Yaba, 196 kg 950 grams of cannabis, 956 liters of distilled liquor, 9 liters of foreign liquor and 1,081 bottles of Phensedyl were recovered from Mirsarai police station in the last one year.

There are allegations that drug dealers are reaching the hands of the youth even though huge drug dealers have been arrested in various operations called special operations by the police. As a result of drug use, young people are getting involved in various immoral activities.

According to several locals, who did not want to be named, the police have arrested drug dealers, including drug dealers, but drug sales and consumption have not decreased. Moreover, the police failed to arrest the drug lords even though the drug dealers were arrested.

Mirsarai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Minhazur Rahman said that despite hundreds of arrests in Mirsarai in the last one year, the main drug lords remained behind the scenes. Due to which drugs are not being stopped from the society.

Mirsarai Police Station Officer in Charge (OC) Kabir Hossain said that since he took charge, Mirsarai Police Station has arrested a large number of drug dealers in just three months. Which was less in the past. Hopefully this continuity will continue.

Jorarganj Police Station Officer in Charge (OC) Nur Hossain Mamun said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared zero tolerance against drugs. Zorarganj police station is working towards that goal.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Mirsarai Circle) Labib Abdullah said the number of arrests of drug and drug traffickers has increased since he took charge in Mirsarai in 2020. At the same time, he praised the two OCs in charge of Jorarganj and Mirsarai police stations for their dynamic work. However, since the drug traffickers use different tactics, the operation failed even after receiving information. However, he hopes to be more careful in this regard.
