It has been alleged that drug trade is going on unabated by forcibly occupying the land of an export-oriented company in Sarishabari of Jamalpur.
AGM Atiqur Rahman of the Golden Fiber Trade Centre Ltd made a written complaint to Sarishabari Press Club on Sunday night.
In a written complaint, AGM Atiqur Rahman of the Golden Fiber Trade Centre Limited said that it is an export-oriented company. Foreign buyers often come to this company. Foreigners are losing interest in this institution day by day after learning about the environment of this organisation.
If this situation continues, the authorities will be be compelled to close the organization like other jute mills.
Some 12 families of the local workers have occupied the land of the organization for about 5/6 years back and established a drug business on that land. Various drugs including liquor, yaba, phensidyl, ganja are openly traded there. Due to its easy availability, the youths are getting addicted to these.
It is very important to free this factory area of drug trade and encroachment to increase the reputation of the factory in the area. Otherwise, foreign buyers will turn their backs. This will affect everyone in the factory.
Mushfiqur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sarishabari Police Station said that the police have raided this colony on several occasions and arrested many with drugs and alcohol. Ujjal Basfour (42) and Sagar Basfour (24) were arrested last Saturday (March 16) in Sarishabari Police Station's operation with 25 litres of distilled liquor.
Later, a case was filed against the arrested at Sarishabari police station under section 24 (b)/41 of the Narcotics Control Act, 36 (1) for the sale of illegal drug locally produced drink and sent them to the court.
