Local lawmaker Galibur Rahman Sherifon Monday said drug peddlers will have to be arrested to check spread of drug addiction.
Putting a question to the local law enforcers, the lawmaker said, “Why is drug consumption increasing and why is it not possible to stop the spread of drugs? Not only the drug users,but also the drug dealers will have to be arrested. If they are not eradicated from the society, the spread of drug use will not decrease.”
Galibur Rahman Sherif, lawmaker of Pabna-4 (Ishwardi-Atgharia) constituency and chief adviser of Ishwardi Upazila Law and Order Committee in Pabna, spoke as the chief guest at the monthly meeting of the committee.
The monthly meeting of Ishwardi Upazila Law and Order Committeewas heldat the upazila conference room on Monday afternoon.Upazila NirbahiOfficer (UNO) Subir Kumar Das presided over the meeting, organised by the upazila administration.
The lawmaker also expressed his concern about drug use and spread.
Upazila Chairman Emdadul Haque Rana Sardar, Vice-Chairman Abdus Salam Khan, retired principal Aynul Islam, SM School and College Principal (Acting) Shahidul Haque Shaheen, Ishwardi Press Club President Mostak Ahmed Kiran, Thana Police Inspector (investigation) Md Monirul Islam, municipalitypanel mayor Abul Hashem, Union Parishad Chairman Bakul Sardar, Abdul Majid Bablu Malitha, Saifuzzaman Pintu, Abdul Khalek Malitha, Emlak Hossain Babu, Shahidul Islam Baga, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pakshi Highway Police Station Helal Uddin Jahangir Hossain and Narcotics Control Directorate Ishwardi Circle In-charge Abdullah Al Mamun, among others, spoke at the meeting.
In the meeting, the speakers highlighted various irregularities and social problems, including drugs, criminal activities, road accidents, traffic jams and illegal traffic, and child marriages. Most of them expressed their concern about the increase in drug consumption and the spread of drugs.
