Mirsharai upazila administration has conducted a mobile court operation against sand bandits on the banks of Feni river in Karharhat union of Mirsharai upazila.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Minhazur Rahman and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mizanur Rahman conducted the operation on Thursday (October 13) afternoon.
At that time, 2 sand lifting machines were seized for taking sand from Feni river and a case was filed under the Sand and Soil Management Act in the name of an unknown person.
Residents and mobile court officials said that sand has been being extracted illegally from the Feni River for quite some time. Along with river erosion in some villages of the upazila, cropland is being destroyed due to illegal sand extraction. Recently, sand and soil have been extracted from 3 crop lands which were drowned in monsoon in some places along Feni River.
Mirsharai Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Minhajur Rahman said that during illegal sand extraction, 2 sand extraction machines were seized and a case was registered against an unknown person.
Our campaign against sand mining will continue. So that illegal sand mining is completely stopped.
