Raw wood is no more a problem for making furniture. If the furniture is made after being processed in the wood treatment plant for 72 hours, no insect including woodlice will be able to attack it.
The durability of the furniture made of processed wood is around one hundred years. With such a guarantee, JS Sawmill and Treatment Plant of Manirampur in Jashore has started exporting processed wood to Korea, with this guarantee.
Through this initiative of JS Treatment Plant, export currency is being earned along with the creation of job opportunities for many people. Khandaker Jahangir Alam, a London expatriate of Manirampur is the founder of this plant.
The JS sawmill and Treatment Plant was built in 2017 on about four and a half bighas of land beside the Manirampur-Dhakuria road (Mahadevpur) of the town. Trolley machines have been installed here in addition to ordinary saws, to cut large pieces of wood. And at present 25 workers are working in this plant. Plant manager Khandaker Mahbub Rabbani Lavlu said that apart from the furniture companies from different parts of the country, general consumers also bring small and big timber here.
Wood mixed with various chemicals is kept in the cylinder with air for straight 72 hours.
The wood is then removed from the cylinder and left to dry for three to four hours in a heater room with the capacity of 35,000 CFT.
Later, various furniture are made according to the demand from this wood. As a result of this procedure, the wood and its colour become stronger and better. Representatives of renowned furniture companies from different parts of the country including Faridpur, Madaripur, Khulna, Satkhira, Rajshahi and consumers of Manirampur bring wood here on a regular basis for the purpose of processing.
Akhi Begum of Narayanganj, the head of the Korean company where this wood is supplied, said the quality of processed timber of the plant in Manirampur is very good and the price is comparatively reasonable.
Therefore she is processing the wood from this plant and exporting it to Korea. Aktarul Islam, a local businessman, said that with the establishment of the treatment plant, the sufferings of the consumers of the area including the big traders have ended.
Khandaker Jahangir Alam said that discussions are in progress to export the wood not only to Korea but also to other countries. He expressed his hope about starting the exporting procedure soon.
Upazila Forest Officer Mostafa Kamal said that the first eco-friendly plant, JS Sawmill and Treatment Plant in Manirampur, has gained a good reputation after its establishment.
He said one more trader has applied for a license to set up another plant along with the JS Sawmill and Treatment plant.
