Draft list of 708 July-Aug martyrs published

The government on Tuesday published a draft list of 708 individuals who lost their lives during the student-mass uprising in July and August 2024. 

The health ministry published the draft list of martyrs of anti-discrimination movement with open access for updates or revisions till October 6. The number of martyrs might be increased in the future, said a release signed by deputy secretary of Health and Family Welfare Ministry Ummey Habiba.

The draft includes the names of martyrs collected from various public and private hospitals and district-level student uprisings, said the ministry in a public circular.

The list is available on the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) websites – www.hsd.gov.bd and www.dghs.gov.bd. It will be publicly open to corrections/additions from Sept 23 to Oct 6, according to the circular.

Family members/heirs/representatives of martyrs are requested to verify/correct/complete the names, addresses and other relevant information published in the list, the circular said.

The list, compiled from various public and private hospitals and district sources, identifies martyrs from the anti-discrimination student movement, said the ministry’s press release.

The ministry urged the family members of martyrs, representatives and heirs to scrutinize the published name, address and other related information to verify, correct, or add names, addresses, and other relevant details.

The ministry also urged family members, successors and representatives to contact their local deputy commissioner, civil surgeon, upazila nirbahi officer or upazila health and family planning officer with appropriate documentation if any names of victims remain missing from the list. If anyone has opinions, suggestions or new data to add regardingthe draft list, they are requested to inform the concerned hospital receiving the service or the nearest government hospital, according to the press release. 

If any martyrs from the recent anti-discrimination student movement has not been included in the list, their family members/heirs/representatives of the martyrs are requested to contact the concerned district administrator/civil surgeon/upazila executive officer/upazila health and family planning officer with proper documents, the ministry added in the circular.
