Dr Yunus takes the helm of two education ministries

The Nobel laureate economist and recently appointed chief advisor, Dr Muhammad Yunus, has taken  the responsibility of running the Ministry of Education as well as the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

This decision was announced on Friday through a notification from the Cabinet Division outlining the allocation of responsibilities among the interim government advisors.

Dr Yunus, who leads the interim government formed late Thursday night, will now manage these crucial educational portfolios, in addition to overseeing 25 other ministries.

This restructuring follows the tenure of Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, who previously headed the Ministry of Education, and Professor Rumana Ali, who managed the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

The new interim government, under Dr Yunus’s leadership, saw 14 of its 17 members take their oaths at Bangabhaban last night. The three remaining members—former ambassador Supradip Chakma, Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy, and retired Navy officer Faruqi Azam—were unable to attend the ceremony due to their absence from Dhaka.

This reorganisation signifies a concentrated approach to educational reform and governance and represents a turning point in the administration of the interim government. The interim government's dedication to tackling educational challenges while navigating a wide range of national issues is demonstrated by Dr. Yunus's dual role in overseeing these important ministries.
