The plantation and Aman fields in the low-lying areas of Sirajganj district’s Tarash Upazila have been submerged under water after several days of continuous rain and water coming down from the upstream. Farmers bought fertilizers and oil at high prices and planted Aman seedlings. Farmers are disoriented as their fields sank due to heavy rain.
However, the Agriculture Office says that if there is no rain and if the water recedes within 2/1 day, then the rice seedlings will not suffer much. According to Tarash Upazila Agriculture Office sources, the target for cultivation of saplings has been set on about 13 thousand hectares of land in Tarash this season. Aman planting is also almost complete, but heavy rains have submerged the planted Aman seedlings in some areas. Its number is about 500 hectares. Although there is no exact number.
On the surface, it can be seen that in the last three days of continuous rain and the downpour from upstream, about 500 hectares of Aman paddy plantations have been submerged under water. The north field of Washin village of Madhainagar UP of Tarash upazila, the east field of Thaphi, the east field of Vadas village of Tarash municipality, the field of Kaurail village, the field of Boalia village and the east field of Nadosaidpur of Magura Vinod union are under water.
Several farmers of Dhamich area said that they bought fertilizer and fuel at high prices and planted saplings and Aman but that field is now under water. We have suffered a huge financial loss.
Rahmat Ali, a farmer of Binsara village in the upazila, said that he bought oil fertilizer at an extra price and planted Aman paddy on 3 bigha of land after a lot of trouble, but that land is now under water due to few days of rain. How to bear this loss if there is a big loss.
Abu Zafar, a farmer of Arangail village of Desigram UP, said that he had bought fertilizer and oil at extra cost and planted Aman paddy on 5 bigha of land, but that land is now under water due to continuous rain. The dream of profiting from the land went under the water.
Tarash Upazila Agriculture Officer Lutfunnahar Luna said that the cost of producing crops has also increased by increasing the price of fertilizer and oil. On top of that, due to the continuous rain, the Aman fields in many lower areas of the upazila have been submerged. But if the rain stops and the water recedes quickly, the paddy will not suffer much. This is what the agricultural officer said.
