The activities of dope gangs have increased as they become active ahead of Eid-ul-Adha in Shialmari cattle market at Jibannagar Upazila in Chuadanga.
The cattle traders are their main target. The traders are losing cash in the weekly cattle market. Cattle trader Shamser Ali, 45, son of Haran Mondal, resident of Joragachi village in Alamdanga became victim of the dope gang on Thursday.
It was learnt that Shamser Ali was drugged and left unconscious by the members of a dope gang while he was going to Sialmari cattle market in Jibannagar. He was in a local bus coming from Chuadanga bus stand when dope gang drugged him and fled the bus. The bus dropped him at Sialmari cattle market in sick condition. The locals rescued him in critical condition and admitted him to Jibannagr Upazilla Health Complex.
Earlier on May 23, Sanowar Hossain, 45, son of Fela Mondal, hailing from Kakledari village under Maheshpur Upazila of Jhenaidah, lost Taka 3 lakh in a similar way. Members of dope gang drugged him and snatched his money when he was going back home after selling cows in Sialmari cattle market.
Before that on May 16, Younus Sheikh, son of Abed Sheikh, resident of Basantapur village in Faridpur Sadar Upazila, became sick after having lunch in a hotel at Sialmari cattle market. The locals advised him to take rest in the market mosque. After waking up he realized the dope gang members have stolen Tk 4 lakh from his bag.
Officer-in-Charge of Jibannagar Police Station SM Jabid Hasan said that they have increased surveillance in the market. But the dope gangs are active outside the market too.
