Department of Enviroment (DoE)’s Monitoring Enforcement Wing and Pabna RAB-12 camp jointly conducting a mobile court drive in Laxmikunda union under Ishwardi upazila of Pabna on Wednesday afternoon fined four illegal brick kilns Tk 11 lakh and demolished them.
Executive Magistrate Rozina Akhter of Pabna Environment Department’s Monitoring Enforcement Wing, Aminul Kabir Tarafdar, Company Commander In-Charge of Pabna RAB-12 Camp, Nazmul Hossain, Assistant Director of Pabna Environment Department and other administrative officials were present during the operation.
According to Pabna-12 RAB sources, these brickfields were set up on agricultural lands without following any regulations of the Department of Environment and District Administration. Instead of coal, wood of different trees was burnt here.
These four brick kilns were fined for violating Sections 4, 5, 6, 8 of the Brick Manufacturing and Kilns Establishment (Control) Act 2019 and Sections 14, 15, 16 and 18 of the Penal Code.
Owner of Messrs Allahr Dan brick kiln Jamal Uddin was fined Tk 5 lakh, owner of Messers Biswas Bricks Shantu Biswas was fined Tk 3 lakh, owner of Messrs NR Bricks Muzahar Pramanik was fined Tk 2 lakh and Messrs Atiyar Rahman brick kiln owner Atiyar Rahman was fined Tk 1 lakh at the time.
Nazmul Hossain, Assistant Director of Pabna Environment Department, said the eviction drive would continue in future as well and illegal brick kiln activities in the area will be stopped in phases.
He added that the current Government is a pro agriculture one and the government is working relentlessly to develop our agriculture sector. In that pretext setting up illegal brick kilns on agro land that burns tree wood instead of coal is higly unexeptable.
Pabna RAB-12 sources said, they are quite active against illegal brick kilns in the area and will continue to prevent establishing such brick kilns that are harmful to the environment.
