Doctor ‘commits’ suicide in Rajshahi

A doctor has allegedly committed suicide by consuming excessive sleeping pills during treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in the early hours of Monday. 

The deceased was identified as Lutaf Rahman, 27.

He was admitted to RMCH around 4am where he died during treatment after half an hour. His dead body has been sent to the morgue of RMCH for autopsy, Dr. Saiful Ferdous, Deputy Director of the hospital said.

Dr. Lutfar Rahman was a resident of Bhabanipur area under Durgapur upazila. He was a student of MBBS, 53rd batch of RMCH and was pursuing his MD course on Hepatology.

ASI Ruhul Amin, in charge of RMCH Police box informed, Dr Lutfar was unconscious when he was brought to the hospital from his village home around 4am. Relatives of Lutfar said that he became ill due to taking excessive sleeping pills. He was rushed to ward-13 from the Emergency department where he died during treatment around 4:30am.

Dr Saiful Ferdous, Director of RMCH said, Dr Lutfar committed suicide by taking excessive sleeping pills but the cause of his committing suicide is yet to be known.

Hasmat Ali, Officer-in-Charge of Durgapur Police station informed, he did not receive any information regarding the death and necessary action will be taken in this connection after inquiry.
