Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced a budget of Tk 5,594 crore for the fiscal year 2024–25, marking a crucial step in municipal financial planning.
The budget received unanimous approval during a meeting held at Nagar Bhaban Hall Room in Gulshan-2, Dhaka, on Sunday. Additionally, the revised budget for fiscal 2023–24 was also endorsed during the session.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that DNCC achieved a record revenue collection of Tk 1,078 crore in the fiscal year 2023–24, marking a remarkable 76% increase in revenue earnings over the past four years.
DNCC's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mir Khairul Alam, initiated the proceedings with an introductory speech, followed by the presentation of the revised budget for fiscal 2023–24 and the proposed budget for fiscal 2024–25 by Chief Accounts Officer Md. Barkat Hayat. Both budgets received unanimous approval.
Addressing the gathering, DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam emphasised the directive from the Prime Minister to enhance the corporation's self-sufficiency and capacity-building. He underscored the importance of revenue generation to achieve financial independence, noting the steady increase in revenue under his administration.
The meeting, moderated by DNCC Secretary Mohammad Masud Alam Siddique, was attended by key officials, including DNCC's Chief Engineer Brigadier General Md. Moin Uddin, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, Chief Waste Management Officer Captain Mohammad Fida Hasan, department heads, councillors, and other stakeholders.
DNCC's proactive budget planning aims to bolster infrastructure development, enhance service delivery, and improve the overall quality of life for residents in Dhaka North.
The budget priorities for FY 2024–25 include public health initiatives, flood mitigation efforts, and climate change resilience projects. Measures to combat dengue, enhance waste management, and improve drainage systems are pivotal in building a cleaner, smarter DNCC.
