The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a traffic advisory in anticipation of the upcoming Ratha Yatra, a significant Hindu festival marking the journey of Lord Jagannath's chariot, set to commence on Sunday and conclude on July 15.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner KN Roy Niyati, various auspicious events are planned at different temples across the city during the festival. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) in Dhaka has organised an eight-day celebration in honour of the Ratha Yatra.
The main procession will kick off at 3 pm on Sunday from the Swamibag Iskcon temple, proceeding through several streets and concluding at the Dhakeshwari temple. The return journey is scheduled for July 15, starting from Dhakeshwari temple at 3 p.m. and following a similar route back to Swamibag Iskcon temple.
The primary route for the Ratha Yatra procession includes:
Swamibag Road (Swamibag Ashram, Iskcon, Dhaka), Joykali Mandir Intersection, Ittefaq Intersection, Shapla Chattar, Dainik Bangla Intersection, Rajuk Crossing, Gulistan, Golapshah Mazar, Police Headquarters, Government Employee Hospital, High Court Mazar, Doel Chattar, Central Shaheed Minar, Jagannath Hall, Palashi, and concluding at Dhakeshwari National Temple.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes in the specified areas to avoid congestion and facilitate the smooth flow of the procession during this auspicious occasion.
