Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has asked members of law enforcement agencies to remain alert ahead and during the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr to prevent crimes.
He gave the instructions at a monthly crime review meeting for the month of March 2022 at the DMP headquarters in the capital on Tuesday.
DMP Additional Commissioners Mir Rezaul Alam, Krishnapad Roy, Dr AFM Masum Rabbani, AKM Hafiz Akter, Md Munibur Rahman, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime chief Md Asaduzzaman and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
"Fifteen days of the fasting month are over. Now visitors and buyers will rush to markets and it will increase gradually. There is the chance of rise in activities of Malam party and Aggyan party or snatching group," the DMP chief said.
"Patrol police has to be more vigilant and members of these gangs should be arrested by forming special teams," he said.
Shafiqul said that criminals should be identified, arrested and brought under the law to prevent crime, adding, "Crime could not be prevented only by patrolling."
Addressing the traffic division, the commissioner said, "Traffic congestion has increased due to Eid. For this, every entrance point of Dhaka city should be kept normal by coordinating with police of the surrounding districts."
He said before Eid many city dwellers will to their villages to celebrate the festival with their dear ones.
"During the period, their homes remain vacant. We need to talk to security guards of the house and take necessary measures to prevent any untoward incident at this time," the DMP chief said.
In crime review meeting of March 2022, Tejgaon division became the first among the six crime divisions of DMP and Mohammadpur police station became the best police station.
Gulshan division has become the first among the nine detective divisions. Wari traffic division became the first among the eight traffic divisions.
