Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said, “Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) will be transformed into one of the world’s leading medical college hospitals. 5000 modern beds are being added to this hospital. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already allocated Tk 20,000 crore for that purpose.”
He was speaking as the chief guest at the “Inauguration of the Certification Programme in Emergency Medicine-CPEM” organised by Dhaka Medical College and Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, USA at Gallery-1 of DMCH on Tuesday (December 7).
All kinds of facilities will be enhanced there including the introduction of state-of-the-art emergency ward and improved testing system. At the same time, construction work of 8 high-quality hospitals with cancer, kidney, liver cirrhosis and dialysis facilities is underway in all 8 divisions of the country, he added.
He further said, through these works, Prime Minister wants to decentralize the medical system by reducing the pressure on Dhaka in the field of medicine.
“Another happy thing is that in Tuesday's ECNEC meeting, the Prime Minister only in 5 minutes approved the work of providing burn and plastic surgery treatment in all divisions of the country”, Zahid Maleque said.
“At the same time, the Prime Minister has approved the digitization of the entire health sector of the country. It is hoped that in the future, the people of the country will be able to get the same medical facilities of improved and Dhaka quality from their respective areas”, the minister added.
Despite the many losses in Corona pandemic, the people of the country have paid special attention to the health sector, care for their own bodies and the relentless work done for the development of the entire medical sector including hospital management, said the Health Minister.
The country's ICU system, oxygen production system, central oxygen, increasing the number of beds, various good initiatives have been taken during this corona, he added.
The health minister cited the country’s health sector as an example to the world of how it has dealt with the epidemic. At a time when world powers are still struggling to combat corona, Bangladesh is playing a vital role in keeping the country's economy afloat by controlling the corona, said Zahid Maleque.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital Principal Professor Dr Titu mia presided over the meeting while, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller, Secretary of the Department of Health Education Md Ali Noor, Director of DMC Brigadier General Nazmul Hasan and other medical leaders were present as special guests.
