Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMC) has introduced a sweeping ban on all student political activities. This decisive move was finalized during a meeting of the college’s academic council on Saturday.
In a formal order signed by Dr. Md Shafiqul Alam Chowdhury, the college administration has prohibited all student political groups, including Chhatra League, Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, and any new or emerging student organizations. This ban covers the entire Dhaka Medical College campus as well as the Shaheed Dr Fazle Rabbee Residential Hall and the Dr Alim Chowdhury Residential Hall.
The order stipulates that any student involved in political activities—whether through public demonstrations, secretive campaigns, or any form of promotion—will face immediate disciplinary action. This includes engaging in or supporting political programs, holding political meetings, or encouraging others to participate in political activities. The administration has emphasized that violations of this new policy will be met with strict penalties.
The decision follows a recent memorial service held to honor students who died during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement. During the service, a prayer was said for the deceased, and the college assured that all injured students from the movement will receive the necessary medical care.
The college’s administration has stated that this policy is intended to foster a more serene and academically focused environment. By eliminating political disturbances, the administration aims to ensure that students can dedicate themselves fully to their medical education and training. The hope is that this will improve the overall academic atmosphere and allow students to concentrate on their professional development without the distractions of political involvement.
