Young and aspiring storytellers can submit different genres of stories, including journalistic stories, non-fiction, and documentaries at free charge from 30 March 2023 to September 30, 2023 in the Community Digital Storytelling Festival (CDSTF).
The festival is organized by the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication (JMC) of Daffodil International University (DIU). The festival will take place on February 10-11, 2024.
The first ever CDSTF in Bangladesh is a unique and innovative annual event that aims to promote and celebrate the art of storytelling through the use of smartphones as a primary tool.
The slogan of the festival is “Real stories by real people”.
This CDSTF is a powerful and dynamic event that brings together the young and aspiring storytellers to share their voices with the world. It gives them an opportunity to promote creativity, innovation and collaboration among storytellers.
Some categories of storytelling that participants must follow are independent category, DIU best community digital story category, one minute category and journalism category. Among the shared stories, only the selected stories will be screened at the festival. The best story will receive the awards.
The Head of the Department of JMC, Aftab Hossain said, “Our department’s core vision is to engage with society and search for solutions to make it a better place. This CDSTF is an opportunity for us to get engaged with society and our academic social responsibility.”
The chief Adviser of the festival and Associate Professor of the JMC, Dr Abdul Kabil Khan said, “Through the Community Digital Storytelling Festival in Bangladesh, we are giving a choice to those who may have been overlooked or unheard. We aim to promote understanding, encourage community activism, and inspire positive change through the power of personal narratives.”
