HEC, Montreal Canada and Daffodil International University (DIU) jointly organised regional final of social business creation, Bangladesh chapter on Tuesday at 71 Milonayoton of the university.
‘Sorbojaya’ team comprised with Mahfuz Islam (Textile Engineering Department), Meghla Akter Mitu ( English Department) and Md Ashik Iqbal (CSE Department) became Regional champion in Social Business Creation, Bangladesh chapter and moved to Canada to attend the global final.
Benoit Préfontaine, high commissioner (HC) of Canada to Bangladesh joined the programme as the chief guest and handed over the awars among the winning team members. Ms Lamiya Morshed, executive director, Yunus Centre was present as the special guest. Presided over by Dr Md Sabur Khan, chairman, Board of Trustees, DIU, the function was also attended by Professor Dr Yousuf M Islam, vice chancellor, Professor Dr Md Masum Iqbal, dean, Faculty of Business and Innovation, Professor Dr Md Fokhray Hossain, Director (International Affairs), Dr Aminul Islam, professor of Finance, UniMAP, Dr Mohammed Eskandari Sani, assistant professor, University of Birjand, Iran and Dr Md Motaharul Islam, associate professor, Bangladesh Open University.
The event was organized by YSBC, Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship, DIU and powered by Social Business Students’ Forum (SBSF).
The top 10 teams from Bangladesh presented their business plans in an elaborate presentation session. Later on, the top 3 teams pitched their business ideas in front of the HC and distinguished judges from Bangladesh, Canada, Malaysia and Iran. The Champion team received 15,000, taka along with CAD $1000 as air fare support to join the World Final at HEC Montreal, Canada.
While addressing as the chief guest Benoit Préfontaine stated that students of DIU are working greatly besides academics to create impacts on co-curricular events which is highly appreciable.
He hoped that through organizing this program, the relationship between the two countries will increase further more in coming days.
