Discussion on snake infestation prevention held at BU

Barisal University (BU) held an online discussion session on "Snake Infestation Remedy" on Saturday, via Zoom. Experts shared advice on how to avoid snake infestations on campus.

Speakers stressed the importance of keeping bushes and shrubs clean. They also recommended using high-soled shoes and carrying torch lights when walking around campus at night. 

Professor Dr Mohammad Badruzzaman Bhuiyan the Vice-Chancellor of Barisal University, addressed the students, emphasizing the need for awareness to prevent snake infestations. He advised keeping carbonic acid in classrooms and halls. He also urged students to be cautious while traveling on campus at night.

The Vice-Chancellor assured that the Medical Center of Barisal University would take necessary measures against snake bites and provide various training sessions to increase student awareness. The online guests appreciated the university administration for organizing this timely discussion. The event aimed to find relief from the ongoing snake problem on campus.

Notable speakers included Professor Dr. Mohammad Badruzzaman Bhuiyan, Gulshan Ara Latifa, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Sharfuddin Ahmed, President of Barisal University Teachers Association Mohammad Abdul Baten Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Biology Subrata Kumar Das, Proctor Dr. Md. Abdul Qayyum, Chairman of the Physics Department Md. Khorshed Alam, and President of Barisal University Officers Association Bahauddin Golap.

Recently, a baby snake was rescued from the house of Ward No. 26 Awami League President Humayun Howlader in the Kalijira area. The species of the snake remains unidentified, but some speculate it might be a Russell's Viper. The snake is currently in the custody of Majibul Haque Majnu and will be handed over to forest officials soon. This discussion and subsequent measures aim to enhance safety and awareness on Barisal University campus.
