Discussion on skill shortage in RMG held at BUP

Bangladesh University of Professionals is conducting a research on ‘Underlying Causes of Managerial Skill Shortage in RMG of Bangladesh’ aiming to uncover strategies to meet the gap of suitable managerial positions in RMG sector.

A team led by the BUP vice-chancellor major general Md Mahbub-ul Alam is conducting the research, said a press release. A round table discussion was held at central conference room of the BUP on Wednesday to discuss on that research, read the release.

Brigadier general Mamun Mahmud Firoz Chowdhury, executive director, RFL group, Mrs Aleya Aktar, general manager, corporate HR of Ha-meem group and Mohammed Showket Iqbal, general manager, HR, corporate office of Epyllion group attended the discussion.

The BUP management department chairperson professor Dr Arifur Rahman said that Bangladesh would benefit financially by employing skilled manpower in the RMG sector. ‘In our country, lack of skills, dependence on foreign partnerships, and cooperation in the initial stage of setting up the industry, lack of trust between the owner and the local employees are particularly observed,’ he mentioned.  Eminent speakers in the round table discussion emphasised on developing students’ communication and management skills.

Among others, the BUP Pro-VC Professor Dr Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain, deans of all faculties, and chairpersons of all departments were present.
