The post of Director (Traffic) of Benapole Land Port is left vacant for about a year now. As a result, import-export activities are facing various obstacles.
The business community has demanded the appointment of a Director (Traffic) at Benapole Land Port on an urgent basis to ensure smooth functioning of the port.
A letter has been sent to the Ministry of Shipping from Bangladesh Land Ports Authority for appointing a director already, but no officer has been appointed to the post of director yet.
According to Benapole Land Port Authority, previous Director (Traffic) of Benapole Land Port Pradosh
Kanti Das was transferred to the post of Director (Administration) from the Head Office on October 26 in 2019. After staying for some time, he was transferred to Dhaka. No officer has been transferred to that post till now.
Benapole land port Director (traffic) Abdul Jalil was given additional responsibilities to manage the activities in the meantime.
According to sources, a letter was sent to the Ministry of Shipping on August 24 from Bangladesh Land Port Authority to appoint an officer to the post of Director (Traffic) of Benapole Land Port.
Bangladesh Land Port Authority Chairman KM Tariqul Islam wrote the letter to pthe Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping.
The letter stated, Benapole land port is the busiest land port in the country. At present Benapole land port is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Moreover, the activities of Benapole land port have increased due to the increase in import and export from the neighboring
countries.
But the vacancy of the post of Director (Traffic) is hampering the overall activities of the port.
Abdul Jalil, Deputy Director at Benapole Land Port, said that it was important to appoint a suitable officer to the post of Director (Traffic) at Benapole Land Port on an urgent basis for smooth operation of the port.
