State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Mahbub Ali said Sylhet Osmani Airport is becoming international-standard airport as tremendous development works are progressing fast.
The state minister made the remark while talking to reporters after inspecting the construction works of a new terminal of the air station on Tuesday.
He said that there will be direct flights from Sylhet Osmani international Airport to various destinations around the world and there will be no compromise to ensure the safety of airports and passengers.
"The present government is also planning to operate flights from Sylhet to New York and Toronto", he said.
He expressed hope that the construction of the new terminal will be completed within the shortest possible time.
About the recent increase in air fares, he said suffering of passengers, especially the Middle East-bound migrant workers has mounted. Terming it as an international issue, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is aware of the plight of migrant workers due a spike in air fares. The government is actively considering giving subsidy to Middle East – bound migrant workers, he added.
