In a move to secure equivalent status for B.Sc for Diploma Engineers, the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) has embarked on a month-long protest programme. This initiative comes in response to the Ministry of Education's proposal to grant B.Sc (Pass) equivalence to diploma engineers.
At a press conference held at the IDEB building in Kakrail, the institution's leaders outlined their demands and plans. Shamsur Rahman, the general secretary of IDEB's central executive committee, emphasized the importance of research, innovation, and modernized education for diploma engineers.
The demands put forth include stopping the decision to change the profession, increasing the promotion quota for diploma engineers to 50 percent, and granting credit waivers for diploma engineering passers to complete degree engineering in two years. The protest program is scheduled as follows:
May 7-11: Press conferences organized by all district branches nationwide. May 12-18: Exchange of opinions and information dissemination by IDEB District Executive Committees, Bangladesh Technical Students Council, Bangladesh Polytechnic Teachers Association, and other organizations.
May 19-23: Meetings at head offices and memorandum submission to the Education Minister by All Diploma Engineers Service Association in Dhaka.
May 26: Meeting and demonstration in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka, followed by memorandum submission to the Education Minister. May 27-30: Meetings and marches organized by district and organizational branches nationwide.
The IDEB president AKMA Hamid, along with other prominent figures, addressed the press conference, stressing the significance of the movement. This concerted effort aims to elevate the status of diploma engineers and prevent the wastage of national talent.
