A Dhaka court has sent Dilip Kumar Agarwala, managing director of Diamond World Limited, to jail after his remand in Hridoy Ahmed murder case during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroz Tithi passed the order on Saturday as the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Md Sadeq of Badda Police Station, produced Agarwala before the court after a three-day remand and prayed to confine him in jail until the investigation ends.
Earlier on September 4, a Dhaka court placed Dilip on a three-day remand in the case that ended on Saturday.
Assistant GRO of Badda Police Station, SM Zahirul Islam, confirmed this to The Bangladesh Post.
In the application for detention in jail, the investigating officer mentioned that, according to the directions of the higher court, the accused was extensively interrogated. Some information about the murder case was obtained from the accused during the interrogation. The verification of this information, including the accused's name and address, is still under process for the sake of the proper investigation.
If the accused is released on bail, there is a possibility of him fleeing or disrupting the investigation. Therefore, for the sake of a proper investigation, it is necessary to keep him in jail until the investigation is completed.
On the night of September 3, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Dilip Kumar Agarwala from Gulshan in the capital. On September 4, Dhaka Metropolitan Court ordered a three-day remand for him.
