Numerous roads within the jurisdiction of Raipur Municipal area in Lakshmipur have deteriorated to the point where they closely resemble canals.
These dilapidated road conditions, characterized by deep potholes and a lack of maintenance, have caused severe disruptions in traffic flow and subjected the local population to significant hardships.
Vehicles, often on a daily basis, are overturning due to the treacherous conditions, resulting in injuries to passengers. One particularly troubled stretch extends for at least one kilometer, running from Raipur city's New Bazaar intersection to Bhuiyan Road near Mahila College.
However, this lamentable state of affairs isn't unique to this area alone; it is a pervasive issue throughout the city. Astonishingly, authorities appear to have turned a blind eye to this dire situation.
Zihad Hossain, a resident of the affected area, said, "We dutifully pay our municipal taxes, but regrettably, the reality is that our roads are in deplorable condition, making it extremely challenging to navigate."
Manowar Hossain, a local from Madhupur locality, said, "No rickshaw or autorickshaw driver is willing to traverse this road. It's virtually impossible to transport goods along these routes. Vehicles frequently overturn or become ensnared in sizable potholes, causing numerous injuries. Moreover, vehicles are subjected to significant wear and tear due to the decrepit road conditions."
When questioned about the situation, Ghiyasuddin Rubel Bhat, an official from Raipur municipality, offered a glimmer of hope, saying, "The condition of the road is poised to improve in the coming days. We have initiated the tendering process for contractors, and once everything falls into place, the road renovation work will commence."
