Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury announced a plan to create a digital certificate bank for university students in Bangladesh. This will store the certificates of about 4.5 million students studying in higher education institutions across the country. The digital certificate bank will keep all student information in one place. The Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BDREN) will help students create portfolios using this digital bank.

The minister made this announcement while speaking as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the new BDREN office in Gulshan-Tejgaon, Dhaka, on Sunday, July 7.

Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury said that BDREN has connected many research and higher education institutions, including most public and private universities, under one network. This digital platform is helping to create skilled manpower for building a Smart Bangladesh.

He emphasized that BDREN has brought significant changes in higher education in the country. Students can now access various digital services related to education and research directly from BDREN.

The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Chairperson of BDREN Trust and Chairman of the University Grants Commission (Additional Charge). Other notable attendees included UGC members Professor Dr. Md. Sazzad Hossain, Professor Dr. Hasina Khan, and Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University Dr. Md. Abu Taher. Former UGC member Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain and Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum were also present.

BDREN started in 2009 as part of UGC’s Higher Education Quality Improvement Project. Since 2019, it has been managed under a trust, continuing its mission to support education and research networks in Bangladesh.
