To ensure the continuous operation of mobile network towers in Feni District, the Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam has instructed that diesel for generators deployed by mobile operators be provided free of charge.
He issued this directive to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Saturday to keep the 78 mobile network towers in Feni operational amid ongoing power outages due to the flood situation.
“Given the current flood conditions, it is vital to maintain the functionality of these mobile network towers, which requires a significant amount of diesel,” said the Adviser.
He directed BTRC to ensure that mobile operators in the district receive the necessary diesel at no cost to keep the generators running.
According to the directive, portable generators (PGs) of 75 kVA consume 2.3 litres of diesel per hour, while diesel generators (DGs) of 30 kVA consume 4.4 litres per hour. With 78 generators in operation, a total of 6,552 litres of diesel are required daily, costing approximately Tk 7,14,168. Over a seven-day period, this amounts to 45,864 litres, costing Tk 49,99,176.
The required funds for this initiative are being provided from BTRC’s budget, following the Adviser's instructions.
