The bus route named 'Dhaka Nagar Paribahan' from Ghatarchar of Keraniganj to Kanchpur will become functional from December 26 instead of December 1 due to inconveniences including lack of compliance by the bus owners.
The decision was made in the 19th meeting of the Bus Route Rationalization Committee held at Buriganga Hall of DSCC Nagar Bhaban on Sunday. Earlier, it was supposed to become active from December 1, according to the decision of the 18th meeting.
Atiqul Islam, member of the Bus Route Rationalization Committee and mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), said at the end of the meeting that there was no flaw in their attempts.
“The bus owners did not keep their word. So we will start this route on December 26 instead of 1st December with some BRTC buses.
In addition, if any transport requests to run on this route by December 12, we will take those buses,” said the DNCC mayor.
After the meeting, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, chairman of the committee and mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) said, "We wanted to start the service on a specific date.
However, we cannot successfully implement on the given date of December 1.”
He added that the concerned officials have taken up this task with utmost determination. Although it could not be launched on December 1 for various reasons, it will for sure be launched by the month December.
The 18th meeting of the Route Rationalization Committee was held at the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) head office Nagar Bhaban on October 5. At the end of the meeting, it was announced that the first phase of bus route rationalization called 'Dhaka Nagar Paribahan' will start from December 1.
