Dhaka Education Board Chairman, Prof Tapan Kumar Sarkar, has resigned from his position. He submitted his resignation letter to the secretary of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) on Sunday night.
Prof Tapan announced his decision after a group of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) students, who failed this year's exams, protested outside the board office. These students, from the HSC Batch of 2024, gathered in front of the board's office, calling for a re-evaluation of their exam results.
The students expressed their frustration with the results, calling them "discriminatory." They demanded that the government publish the HSC results by mapping all subjects. This means they want a review and adjustment of marks across all subjects, ensuring fairness in the evaluation process.
The protest occurred after the HSC and equivalent exam results were released on October 15. A large number of students were unhappy with their results and believed that there was an issue in the evaluation process.
The protest lasted for several hours, with students refusing to leave the premises until their demands were heard. In response to the situation, Prof Tapan Kumar Sarkar decided to step down from his role as the chairman of the board.
His resignation is seen as a direct response to the growing tension and dissatisfaction among students. The authorities have yet to confirm whether the re-evaluation of the results will take place.
This event highlights the ongoing issues surrounding the HSC exams and the importance of ensuring fairness and transparency in the examination system.
