Coronavirus infections are increasing across the country most of which are said to be due to the Omicron variant. A clinical guideline has been finalized for this, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Dr Nazmul Islam, spokesperson of DGHS made the statement during the regular health bulletin on the coronavirus situation in the country on Wednesday.
He said, “Various studies have shown that Omicron has spread in the country. Studies by IEDCR, ICDDRB and BSMMU have shown that along with the Delta variant, more contagious variant of coronavirus, Omicron cases are being identified. This variant is causing more infections. Clinical guidelines for this have already been prepared and finalized. It will be given to other healthcare institutions in a short time.”
Regarding the type of Omicron, the spokesperson said that work is underway to find out the other symptoms of Omicron. Hygiene is very important in controlling the disease.
Noting that the number of corona patients worldwide is increasing day by day, he said that 35.28 million people worldwide have already been infected with coronavirus and the number of deaths may exceed 5.6 million.
He further said, “The number of corona patients in the country as a whole has been increasing in the last seven days. The number of Covid - 19 patients in the country and the detection rate as a percentage have increased little by little. On January 19, a total of 9,500 patients were identified and the detection rate was a little over 25 percent. On January 25, some 16,033 patients were identified and the percentage stood at 32.40 percent.”
The spokesperson mentioned that the total number of patients in January 2021 was 21,629. By January 2022, it has already surpassed 1,30,000 patients.
Noting that vaccination activities are going on, he said that more than 95.4 million people have been vaccinated with the first dose till Tuesday.
“More than 5 crore 57 lakh people have been vaccinated with the second dose. And more than 12 lakh 64 thousand people have been vaccinated with booster dose,” he added.
