Deputy Speaker of the parliament and Pabna-1 constituency’s member of parliament advocate Shamsul Huq Tuku was flown to Dhaka by helicopter for emergency treatment after suddenly falling ill.
He was transported from Abdul Khaleque Stadium in Bera upazila of Pabna at about 3:30pm on Friday by a Bangladesh Navy helicopter and admitted to the Combined Military Hospital.
Earlier, at about 11:00am, Tuku attended at the inauguration ceremony of a tree plantation programme at Bihari Pilot High School grounds in the upazila.
After the inauguration, the lawmaker was preparing to plant trees in the area adjacent to his house, when he suddenly felt sick and fell down. He was immediately taken to Bera upazila health complex and later, to his home after feeling better.
However, he was subsequently taken to Dhaka by Navy helicopter for better treatment.
Confirming the incident, Bera upazila nirbahi officer Morshedul Islam said that Tuku suddenly fell ill after an afternoon function.
‘He is now fairly healthy, but his heart condition is not good, so he was taken to the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka for better treatment,’ UNO Morshedul added.
