Classes for the first-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students at public and private dental colleges, as well as medical college dental units across Bangladesh, will start on August 22. This announcement was made by the Directorate of Health Education on Sunday. The notification confirms that all first-year students enrolled in the BDS course for the academic year 2023-2024 should prepare to begin their classes on this date.
In other educational updates, after a period of disruption last month, classes have resumed in educational institutions across the country. The Ministry of Education has ordered the reopening of all schools and colleges under its jurisdiction, with classes resuming yesterday. Primary schools have also been instructed to resume their full schedule.
The postponed Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations are now set to start on September 11, following the new schedule. For secondary schools, the usual half-yearly exams have been replaced with a four-day evaluation process, but the timeline for the biannual assessments is still unclear.
Educational institutions were closed indefinitely on July 17 due to safety concerns arising from protests demanding job quota reforms. These closures lasted until August 5, when the previous government stepped down amid ongoing protests. The reopening of educational institutions and the resumption of academic activities have brought relief to students and parents alike, as they prepare for the upcoming exams and academic sessions.
