Bangladesh's current dengue situation is relatively satisfactory compared to other Asian nations. Despite ongoing challenges, the country's proactive measures to keep the disease under control.

Minister of Local Government Md Tazul Islam stated during the 2nd meeting of the "National Committee on Prevention of Dengue and Other Mosquito-Borne Diseases," at the secretariat on Thursday on Thursday.

Minister Islam highlighted statistics showing 3,751 dengue cases and 46 deaths in Bangladesh as of July 2, 2024. In contrast, India reported 19,447 cases by April 30, Sri Lanka 23,931, Malaysia 50,650, and Indonesia 88,593 cases. Developed countries like Singapore recorded 8,962 cases by June 27, while Thailand reported 33,000 cases.

He commended efforts in Dhaka city to raise public awareness, attributing this year's lower impact to improved community engagement from city corporations to union councils. District and municipal committees have been mobilised to ensure proactive measures are implemented, echoing last year's directives to district and divisional commissioners.

Collaborative efforts with Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam, Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, and Local Government Department Secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman are pivotal in controlling the spread, Minister said.
