Several hundred students and people of diverse professions under the banner of Green Voice, Rajshahi, organised a human chain at Zero point of Shaheb Bazaar in Rajshahi in protest against the alarming increase of countrywide rape and demanding immediate arrest and death sentence of the rapists.
The human chain programme was attended, among others, by Rajshahi College students Minhaj Touhid, M.Obaidullah, Abdur Rahim, Mahbub Tunku, Raj, Tamim Shirazi and Advocate Lisa Akhter.
The speakers at the human chain placed six-point demand to the government and speedy implementation of the demands, otherwise, they announced to continue their movement.
The six-point demands include: Forming of a separate tribunal for the trial of the rapists, death sentence for the rapists and a public hanging for the mass-rapists. They also demanded the government to take responsibility for education and treatment for the rape victim below 18-year of age, disposal of the rape cases within a short time and disposal of all previously filed rape cases within next three months and declaration of rape cases as non-bailable cases. Action should also be taken for any nepotism or negligence for such cases by any person. They said, the rapists have no father, no mother, no caste and no religion; their only identity is that they are rapists. Death sentence is their only punishment. They called for starting a mass movement against the rapists irrespective of the nationality, religion and caste.
The human chain was supported by the organisations Jatiya Adivasi Parishad, Roktobandhan, Yeas, Suryakiron Bangladesh and Chhatra Odhikar Sangraskhan Parishad.
