Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Aminur Rahman said that the illegal buildings on hills will be cleared and hills will be preserved. There will be no more illegal structures on the hills in Chattogram.
The 26th meeting of Hill Management Committee was held at Chattogram Divisional Commissioner's conference room on Monday afternoon.
The meeting was presided over by Divisional Commissioner Aminur Rahman and Hill Management Committee Member Secretary and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Nazmul Ahsan moderated.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Md Fakhruzzaman, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development), Additional DIG, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman, Department of Environment, Zilla Parishad, BGB, CMP, Railways, WASA, Garnapurt, LGED, PDB, CCC, CDA, YPSA and all service organizations were present.
Regarding the decisions made in the hill management committee meeting, the divisional commissioner said that the eviction process of all illegal structures on the hill in Chattogram will continue with the cooperation of the district commissioner, law enforcement forces and service agencies. Utility services must be vigilant so that no unauthorized connections can be obtained. Causes of landslides, mountain cutting stopped, mountain management activities will be conducted through a new committee. Now the process of eviction of those living illegally and dangerously in the hills will continue. Electricity Development Board has been instructed not to provide new electricity connection in the hills.
In the meeting, it was decided that evacuation operations will be conducted under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner subject to the provision of updated lists by all agencies.
Head of the organization or appropriate representative will attend the meeting from the next meeting. Electricity water gas connection in the illegal establishments of hills should be disconnected. Hill cutting should be stopped. Consideration of resettlement of those to be evicted. Awareness should be raised about hill cutting/hill living. 36-point recommendations should be implemented in phases.
