A human chain was held in Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) demanding resistance of violence against women and punishment of criminals involved in rapes across the country including the recent incident of Begumganj in Noakhali.
On 5 October, the human chain was held in front of the central Shaheed Minar of the university on the theme ' Resist violence and rape against women' and this was organized by NSTU theatre.
The program was conducted by Hasib Al Amin, President of NSTU theatre where NSTU Teachers Association’s President Professor Dr Newaz Mohammed Bahadur, General Secretary Maznur Rahman, NSTU Theatre's Advisor Prof. Dr. Firoz Ahmed, NSTU Officers Association's general secretary Mezbah Uddin Palash and students, teachers, officials, members of NSTU Theatre were present.
Professor Dr Newaz Mohammed Bahadur said, "Violence against women and gang rape are on the rise in different parts of the country. Women are becoming socially insecure on the roads. Day by day the criminals become ferocious.
The criminals involved in violence against women and gang-rape across the country should be immediately arrested and exemplary punishment should be given.”
Prof. Dr. Firoz Ahmed said, 'Women empowerment is increasing in Bangladesh but some people think that women are weak.
Women must be respected. He demanded proper investigation of all the violent inci
dents including that of Begumganj and all
over Bangladesh. The maximum punishment for such brutality must be ensured.
