In the Nabinagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria, winter cake and pie traders have been hit by selling rice cakes and pie at the beginning of the winter season. The sale of pie is going on in different localities of the Upazila. The concerned traders said that many are earning good income. This business does not require much capital. The business was started with wood, some Jaggery, coconut and rice powder as fuel. Pie traders are also seen using gas stoves instead of wood.
Upazila's high school gate, launch Ghat, municipality and 21 union Haat-bazars are busy selling bhapa, chitai, puli, dimpitha, mera pitha in the winter season. The number of buyers is eye-catching.
This business goes on from afternoon to late night, especially after dusk. Some people eat pita sitting on the tool or standing, and many take it home. Chitai Pitha can be eaten with coriander leaves, chilli, mustard, dry batter. The price of each pie is taken from 5 to 10 taka. Most pitha shop owners are women, but there are also men.
Pitha seller Nurjahan Begum said, every year when winter comes, we start selling pitha. The more severe the winter, the more sales of pies will increase. Every day from afternoon to 10 pm we sell pithas worth one to one and a half thousand rupees. The pies that are given with Jaggery and coconut are the most popular pies. People who came to eat pitha said that the fun of eating bhapa and chitai pitha during winter is different. When you see hot steamed pita, you have to control your cravings.
A customer named Tarek said that most of the time it is not possible to prepare and eat pita at home due to busy schedule. As a result, they have to buy and eat from roadside shops. But those who make pitha should protect it from dust and make pitha in a healthy way. Usually Bhapa Pitha is made by mixing coconut, date jaggery with rice powder. A vendor sells at least 2 to 3 hundred pieces of pitha every day.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Habibur Rahman said that pitha made in the open market on the side of the road can be contaminated with dust and sand.
Which can lead to peptic ulcer, diarrhea, typhoid and other serious physical problems. So you have to be careful while making pitha and eating it.
