The excellent reputation of the capital’s Bailey Road Iftar Bazar has been around since long. People from the surrounding areas flock to the eateries here to buy delectable iftar delicacies.
The buyers, however, feel dejected as the eateries demand outrageous prices.
The shops at the Iftar bazar are selling various delicious items. Foodies come to buy Iftar items from Banglamator, Shantinagar, Moghbazar, Rampura, Badda and Malibagh.
Talking to some customers, our correspondent saw that the prices of items made of beef are very high. Due to the high price, many people cannot afford to buy Iftar items there. Different types of chicken kababs are being sold there at prices much higher that of the last year.
Mahmuda Sultana, who has come from Madhubagh said, “My children love iftar items selling on Bailey Road and so, I have come to buy iftar items at Iftar Bazar. Some items are beyond our reach. Meat items, particularly Kababs are more expensive. So, I choose chicken items”.
“We also love Beef Haleem, but the price is not below Tk 200. So, it is not possible for us to meet
the desire of our children” she added.
Rubel Ahmed, resident of Shantibagh, said, I have come to the Iftar Bazar to buy some iftar items with Tk 1000, but after purchasing few items, my money ran out. I think this market is not for the middle class people, but for the rich’.
Iftar stalls on Bailey Road offer everything from Chickpeas and Peyaju to Meat and Parathas. Besides, various types of Chops, Kababs, Mutton Haleem, Mutton grill chap, Beef chap, Kacchi biryani (khasi), Phirni, Mutton leg roast, Borhani, Chicken roast (full), Chicken fry, Chicken samucha, Chicken lolly, Jali kabab, Shik kabab, Vegetable roll, Spring roll, keema chop, Peyaju, Beguni, Chhola, Basmati Jorda, Bundiya, haleem, Dai bara, Suti Kabab, Reshmi Kebab and Keema Paratha are very popular here.
The traders said, they are selling Chicken keema Parata at Tk 60, Sami Kabab at Tk 40, Cutlet at Tk 90 (per pc), Fish finger at Tk 70m BBQ wings at Tk 50 (Per pc), Beef Tehari at Tk 290, Chicken Polau at Tk 280. More than 100 iftar items including different types of kababs are available there.
Asked about the high price, a salesman said this is an posh area and all the delicious Iftar items are available here, so the prices here are high.
Well-off people of this area generally buy iftar items there.
