Md. Jashim Uddin, president of FBCCI, the apex trade body of Bangladesh, has welcomed the decision of the government to ensure ad-free Clean-feed programs on foreign TV channels from 1st October this year.
“In Bangladesh, although a law regarding clean feed Broadcasting of foreign TV Channels has been in place before, it has not been implemented so far. As a result, on the one hand, the advertising market of local TV channels has shrunk, and on the other hand, despite the promotion of advertisements for foreign products, no revenue has been deposited in the state exchequer”, said FBCCI President in a statement on Monday.
The statement said according to various media reports, the government is depriving about Tk 2,000 crore a year from advertisements on foreign TV channels. The country's local companies are spending huge sums of money to promote their products and services to be advertised, in contrast, foreign TV channels are showing advertisements, without spending any extra money, creating huge demand for their products in the country's market.
In addition, many domestic companies are becoming interested in advertising on foreign channels instead of Bangladeshi TV channels.
