A court on Wednesday (October 28th) first ordered the filmmaker Debashish Biswas to be sent to jail in a fraud case. He was later granted bail by the plaintiff’s lawyer on condition that the money be returned.
He promised to return the money mentioned in the complaint on Thursday. As a result of the promise, the judge granted him bail.
Debashish Biswas surrendered in court yesterday and applied for bail in a fraud case against him. Meanwhile, Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Asaduzzaman Noor ordered him to be sent to jail.
Shortly afterwards, lawyer Khandaker Muhibul Hasan re-applied for bail on the promise to return the money taken as per the agreement. The court granted him bail on that condition.
According to the lawsuit, Debashish Biswas signed a commercial deal with a man named Liton Sarkar Emon on July 30, 2019, the owner of the PNTV YouTube channel. According to the agreement, PNTV bought four Bengali films produced by Debashish’s mother Gayetri Biswas Mayer Morjada, Shuvo Bibaho, Opekhha Ebong Ojante for promoting on the YouTube channel for Tk 140,000 for 60 years. YouTube authorities shut down his channel after he uploaded the films on the YouTube channel. Later, the plaintiff found out that the accused had sold the four films to someone else before the plaintiff uploaded them on the YouTube channel in 2017. As a result, after the films were uploaded on PNTV YouTube authorities shut down the channe. In that incident, on 8 September 2019, Liton Sarkar Emon filed a fraud case in the name of Debashish Biswas in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
