The chief of the White Paper Drafting Committee and distinguished fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Debapriya Bhattacharya today met Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed at the Secretariat here to discuss the committee's activities in preparing the white paper on the overall situation of the economy.
"I came here to talk about the committee formed by the chief adviser. I will now give the names of other members to the chief adviser. Once approved, work will begin. The committee is likely to comprise around 10 members," Debapriya told journalists after the discussions.
He said the panel, which will prepare a white paper on the state of the economy, will consider incorporating issues beyond its mandate depending on the situation.
"The committee will recommend strategic steps to stabilise the economy, reach the sustainable development goals, and mitigate the challenges after Bangladesh graduates from the least developed country (LDC) category," he added.
Regarding the committee's working scope, he said the committee will operate based on discussions as per the circumstances, and decisions will be made based on the discussions and accurate data.
Last Wednesday, the chief adviser's press wing announced the formation of the committee to publish the white paper.
Besides giving an overall picture of the current economy, the white paper will also include strategic steps by the government on economic matters, implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and actions for transitioning from a Least Developed Country (LDC) to a developing country, the chief adviser's press wing said Wednesday (21 August) during the committee's formation.
The committee will submit its report with recommendations to the Chief Adviser of the interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus within 90 days of its formation, the press wing said.
