Five more burn victims of the explosion on an oil tanker on the Sugandha river in Jhalakati have died while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka on Tuesday.
They are Ripon Sikder, Mehedi Hasan, Mosharraf Hossain Rony, Ashiq Islam and Shahid Talukder. They died between 5am to 8:15 pm on Tuesday, said SM Ayub Hossain, a resident surgeon at the institute. The death toll now reached six.
Earlier on Friday, an explosion took place in a pipe while unloading octane from the pump room of a ship named Sagar Nandini-3 anchored on Sugandha river in the municipal ferry area of Jhalakathi at 8:30 am.

At that time 8 people working on the ship were burnt. They were rescued by fire service personnel and locals and taken to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital. There, the duty doctor announced Kamrul Islam (35) dead.
The remaining seven were first admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and alter they were shifted to Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka. Two of them, Imam Uddin and Rubel, have returned home with treatment at the Burn Institute.
