Dead mother turtle found floating again on beach

Two dead mother turtles of the Olive Ridley species have been washed ashore at Ukhia Sonarpara beach in Cox's Bazar. Excluding the rotten eggs, 90 eggs were found in one turtle and 95 eggs in the other.

Bangladesh Marine Research Institute (BORI) Senior Scientific Officer Tariqul Islam said two turtles were recovered from the Sonarpara beach near the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive Road on Tuesday (February 20) morning.

Earlier, in the last six days, 11 mother turtles came to Sonarpara, Rejukhal estuary, Himachari and Inani beaches.

Tariqul Islam, Senior Scientific Officer of Bangladesh Marine Research Institute (BORI) said that turtles are dying after being hit by fishermen's nets or in some other way when they come to lay eggs in the beach sand.

According to Bangladesh Marine Research Institute (BORI), at least 41 dead turtles have been recovered from St. Martin, Sonadia, Himachari, Sonarpara, Inani and Teknaf beaches of Cox's Bazar coast from January to February 20.
