Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has taken up a programme to cultivate winter vegetables in ten districts of south-western region under Khulna division during the current Robi crop season.
These ten districts are- Jashore, Narail, Jhenidah, Magura, Khustia, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Satkhira, Khulna and Bagerhat. The DAE office sources said, under the programme, a total of 77,228 hectors of land would be brought under the winter vegetables cultivation with the production target of 18,13,225 metric tonnes.
Of these, 15,965 hectares of land would be brought under cultivation in Jashore with a production target of 4,15,090 metric tonnes, 2,975 hectares in Narail with production target 63,368 tonnes, 11,010 hectares in Jhenidah with production target 2,53,230 tonnes, 3,650 hectares in Magura with production target 87,600 tonnes, 6,755 hectares in Kushtia with production target 1,58,743 tonnes, 8,593 hectares in Chuadanga with production target 1,97,639 tonnes, 4,050 hectares in Meherpur with production target 1,17,450 tonnes, 9,500 hectares in Satkhira with production target 1,99,500 tonnes, 6,910 hectares in Khulna with production target 1,48,565 tonnes and 7,820 hectares of land in Bagerhat district with a production target of 1,72,040 metric tonnes.
As part of the programme, farmers have already cultivated on land with improved quality of vegetables seeds, DAE sources said.
Meanwhile, the crop specialists and field-level officials of the DAE have started providing their field-level service to the cultivators following directives of the government.
Additional Director of Jashore regional DAE Partho Pratim Saha told that the concerned officials have also started visiting rural areas of the districts to let the cultivators know about the latest methods of winter vegetables cultivation for getting best yielding rate by reducing production costs of the vegetables.
The Additional Director also said that different state-run commercial banks including Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) have disbursed agro-loan to the farmers for making the cultivators capable to run their winter vegetables cultivation.
