A three-day conference of the Deputy Commissioners (DCs), an annual meeting of the heads of district with the policy makers of the government, begins tomorrow (Tuesday) with a view to ensuring good governance at all layers of the society.
This year’s conference will be held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city due to reappearance of Covid-19.
The DCs conference is usually held at the conference at Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the conference virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence in the capital on Tuesday morning.
Besides, President M Abdul Hamid is also expected to virtually take part in the conference from his official residence Bangabhaban in Dhaka in the evening of the day and deliver a directional speech.
Apart from them, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Chief Justice Hasan Foyez Siddique will virtually also join the conference.
A total of 25 sessions including 21 working sessions will be held during the conference.
Ministers, advisers, state ministers, deputy ministers and secretaries will participate in 21 working sessions during the conference to issue directives to the deputy commissioners and divisional commissioners.
The conference is held every year to discuss the ways of the execution of different policies, guidelines, priorities of the government as well as the proposal of field-level officials for smooth and effective functioning of the government and maintaining law and order of the country.
But the conference was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Therefore, this year’s DCs conference is very important programme of the state as an open discussion with the prime minister is going to take place after two years.
The DCs will get opportunities to interact with prime minister, ministers and secretaries on development and governance issues.
And they will set out priorities and guidelines for working for the next one year based on outcome of the conference.
Apart from taking extra caution against quick-spreading new coronavirus variants, maintaining law and order, resolving land-related problems, strengthening activities of local government institutions, disaster management, implementation of poverty alleviation programmes and social safety net programmes are some of the key issues to be discussed in the conference.
Besides, the head of the state and the government will also instruct DCs to further speed up their activities to keep up the ongoing development spree to make Bangladesh a developed and prosperous country during the conference.
