East West University (EWU) conducted a comprehensive awareness program on plastic pollution with the aim of educating and inspiring action against the growing crisis. The event, held on Saturday, saw active participation from school students who engaged in various initiatives to combat plastic pollution.
Notable personalities including Syed Manzur Elahi, Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, and Air Cdre (Retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury graced the occasion, sharing insights on reducing, reusing, and recycling plastics. They underscored the harmful impacts of plastic on the environment, citing issues like waterlogging, crop loss, and threats to aquatic life.
Highlighting the global efforts to curb plastic use, speakers emphasized the need for increased awareness among the people of Bangladesh. They urged students to take proactive steps in minimizing plastic usage within their families and pledged to contribute towards ending plastic pollution.
The event, chaired by Dr Suraia Nusrin, Chairperson of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Dhaka, concluded with students' promises to actively work towards a plastic-free future.
